Life is filled with improbably moments—placing us in unthinkable places.  Our first thought is to believe we’ve been dealt a pretty poor hand in life.  Cars break down, or we experience “intense fellowship” in our relationships, or our work is less than satisfying, or we are bothered by a nagging pain or in some way, you just find yourself struggling from day to day.

I continue to marvel in how God has made us to bloom.  Do we find ourselves in improbably soil located in unthinkable places as a mentor?  Yes… but God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe…and He can bring life where He pleases.

A friend sent me a photo with the primrose poking out through the sidewalk.  Not exactly the place anyone of us would choose to grow.  With all of the carefully managed garden soil everywhere but under the sidewalk—God ordained these flowers to bloom in the least conducive place.

As an online mentor, that’s what you were made to do.  Think of it, “What difficult circumstances have you been planted in?”  But there is probably a better question that needs to be asked, “What is the part of you that needs to bloom there?”

As we mentor, it is easy to look at how improbable and unthinkable the circumstances those we mentor now find themselves—sometimes because of the actions of others, sometimes because of the actions of themselves, and sometimes because God desires to receive praise and glory through things beyond our reason.

Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither [wearily] toil nor spin nor weave; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory (his splendor and magnificence) was not arrayed like one of these.”  (Luke 12:27, AMP) [See I Kings 10:4-7 for evidence of Solomon’s glory.]
