They wanted all the things you want: healthy kids, a happy marriage, financial security.  They had dreams and plans. They both worked a lot of hours, juggled busy schedules, and were drowning in debt.  They pursued things, not God, and were unaware they were building their house in vain. (Psalm 127:1-2)

They didn’t know the Lord, but when was there time to share the Gospel with them?  The plate of cookies on the holidays was sweet, but would that make an impact?  They worked most Sundays so it was hard to connect with them in the midst of very hectic lives.

However, the Lord was working and soon babies came for both families.  The neighbors began trading babysitting and sharing similar interests.  Were there overt Gospel presentations?  No.  Intense Bible studies?  No.  The Holy Spirit used casual conversation over scrapbooking baby photo books and sharing a “cup of something” near the dinner time scramble.

God paved the way for His plan and the time finally came for a natural invitation to Sunday church.  They said yes and it wasn’t long before both the husband and wife also said yes to Jesus!  They surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ and began an incredible journey of healing, growth, and most of all, experiencing His power.  They were walking in the death of their sin and now they were alive in Christ (Ephesians 2:1-5) and born again. (John 3:1-21)

The Lord rescued their marriage, their family, their legacy, and their future.  He put a burning desire in their hearts to reach other marriages and families with the hope of Jesus Christ.  He continues to teach them daily to trust Him in every area of their lives-from finances to raising children.  God is giving them even better dreams and plans for the future. (Ephesians 2:10)

When you think about the neighbors God has placed in your life, keep your eyes fixed on Christ and His word.  Stay true to your call to go into the world sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:16-20).  Don’t be intimidated by all the obstacles, but trust that the Holy Spirit is at work.  I implore you!  It’s a matter of life and death.  Listen to that still small voice directing your steps and obey.  We are so grateful to the Lenharts who did just that.  You see, we were the neighbors next door.

(Dedicated to the Lenhart Family:  Thank you for allowing God to use you and for sharing the only Good News we ever really needed.  God bless you.)

Lord, help me to hear Your voice and follow Your lead.  Help me to love my neighbors and share the Good News.  I trust that You are working and You have placed me right here for this very time.  I pray for lives to be rescued and families won for Your glory!  In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
