The wind outside is whirling almost as much as all the questions in my head. Our evening news repeats the same gloom and doom as the morning newspaper. The economy and the war against terrorism compete for top story. Unstable. Unsure. Unpredictable.
I dislike those words and the feelings associated with them even more. I love order, structure, and control. Many women say the same thing. We look to our schedules and our routines. We look to our husbands and our friends to provide the security we so desperately crave. I have tried the latest charts, systems, and lists. I always end up in the same place. Sometimes it takes me longer to get there than others. Sitting with my Bible, clinging to His truth and claiming His promises, I talk to my God, my Savior Jesus Christ. Then it happens. His tender touch.
Early tonight, I sat in my front window praying and gazing out at the trees when a beautiful red bird perched on a branch right in front of me. The Lord brought Matthew 6:26 to mind,
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”
He whispered in my soul: I love you and I am taking care of you. Fear not. His tender touch.
Do you sense Him drawing you close? Let Him minister to you and encourage you. Let Him speak truth to you through His Word. Respond to His invitation and read more in the Bible. This was His reminder to me: I can find security in Him alone. I am to build my life on Him and rest on this firm foundation as I see in 1 Corinthians 3:9-14 and below from Matthew 7:24-27:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell, and great was its fall.”
He wants to offer you His tender touch. He wants to be your firm foundation too. Give Him your time in prayer and in the Bible today. He wants to show you how much He loves you. Unimaginable. Unshakable. Undeniable.
